Briefing:
These are several web site to examine for Web Design , E-Commerce.
Similarities:
- These site are all about promoting music, musical performances.
- All the site sell music CD.
- All the sites use tables and or frames to support their
structure.
- All the site a have a home page (other than a splash page)
- All the site have a "color" and "font face" theme.
- Pictures are used extensively
- Sound samples are always offered
- All are DOT COMs !!
- They use Java or a scripting Language, and have "hover"
actions.
Differences:
- 3 of the 5 sites sell items other that CDs, 2 sites have
extensive shopping cart sales.
- Only one site is not connected to MP3.com for CD sales
and promotions.
- Only the Placido Domingo is "squshy", meaing that is reconfigures
to well in all size browser in the best attempt to not "Violate
the Crease".
- Domingo is also the only one that tries animation. And
it has the looks of streaming video .
- 3 site have a "High End Look", one has an intentional
low end look for campyness.
- One site offers sales on the honor system and refuses
your credit card number. And it has sold product.
- The better the looking the site the longer it takes to
load.
- 3 of the 5 have a splash page.
- I designed only the SantaP site.
- I know the designers of the Herd of Blues and Psyco-A-Billys
- Some site are "forwarded" and some are resister to the
Host Server. DSI numbers and such.
- Only one is about a woman.
- Only two are solo acts.
- Each one is at it’s own level (local to national to international
to Super Star). And in that have different levels of budget
and have a "look" and "feel" associated with their level
success.
Most Liked:
I most liked the Piano Princess site because of the theme
of the keyboard. While the site was bigger it was well organized
and I felt like I could navigate and not lose tract of where
I had been and where I would be going next. I like the images
and they are creative and different.
Least liked:
I didn’t like the way Herd of Blues, and Domingo used "mystery
meat navagation" (see www.WebPagesThatSuck.com
"Daily Sucker"). The buttons in some place are not apparent
and the link to can be unknown if not for a guess from a clue
provided by the status bar.
Also while the graphical design was very good in these sites
Images didn’t over all help me Understand what the musicains
were about. They stood as places holder to break up type.
And While the Domingo site had life time pictures of who he
was, that didn’t help me understand who he IS and what his
MUSIC is about.
